During a home move in Dhaka, the highest risk of expensive damage does not come from simple carton carrying—it happens when untrained casual labour tries to force a 3-part wardrobe down a narrow staircase, disconnects a split AC without locking the refrigerant gas, or lays a refrigerator flat inside a pickup truck.
At Pro Movers BD, our carpenters, AC technicians and packing crew follow a strict technical checklist so your appliances and furniture work and look exactly as they did before the move.
1. Split & Window AC Dismantling and Reinstallation Rules
An air conditioner is a sealed pressurized system. Disconnecting it without proper tools leads to refrigerant loss, bent copper fins or water-drain leaks at the new flat:
- Refrigerant Pump-Down (Gas Locking): Before switching off the main breaker, our technician runs the AC in cooling mode and uses a hex key on the outdoor unit’s liquid and suction service valves to pump and lock all R32/R410A/R22 refrigerant inside the condenser coil.
- Copper Pipe & Flare Nut Sealing: Once disconnected, copper pipe ends and service ports are immediately capped and taped so dust, brick grit or humidity cannot enter the refrigerant line and damage the compressor.
- Indoor Unit, Bracket & Outdoor Condenser Packing: The indoor blower unit is wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed; the mounting plate, remote and drain pipe are bagged and labelled; the heavy outdoor unit is strapped upright in the covered van.
- Reinstallation at Your New Flat: At destination, our technician checks wall load bearing, drills the core hole at a slight outward slope for smooth water drainage, flares and torques the copper joints, checks pressure and tests cooling performance. (In our 2026 Shifting Price Guide, Split/Window AC Dismantling & Refitting has an indicative rate of ৳1,500 – ৳2,500 / unit.)
2. Refrigerator, Freezer & Washing Machine Safety Protocol
- Defrost 8–12 Hours Before Moving Day: Unplug your refrigerator and deep freezer the night before the move, empty all food items, remove glass shelves to wrap separately, and wipe interior moisture dry to prevent mildew and water leakage onto cartons.
- Strictly Upright Transport: Never lay a refrigerator flat on its back or side—doing so causes compressor lubricating oil to seep into the cooling pipes. Our crew carries refrigerators upright using padded harnesses and ties them vertically against the covered van bulkhead.
- 3–4 Hour Settling Rule Before Power-On: After placing the refrigerator in your new kitchen, wait 3 to 4 hours before plugging it into the wall socket and voltage stabilizer so compressor oil settles completely.
- Washing Machine Drum & Hose Care: Drain residual water from the inlet and drain hoses, secure the drum (using transit bolts on front-load machines or foam stabilizing pads), and bag the tap adapter with the machine.
3. Knock-Down Furniture, Beds & 3-Part Wardrobe Dismantling
Modern melamine-board, Malaysian MDF and solid teak furniture in Dhaka apartments rarely fits inside a standard 6–8 passenger lift without dismantling:
- Pre-Move Measurement: During our free survey, the supervisor measures your king/queen beds, 3-part or sliding-door wardrobes, 6–8 seater glass dining tables and L-shaped sofas against both buildings’ lift doors and stair turns.
- Hardware Indexing (Zero Lost Screws): Every bolt, cam lock, hinge, shelf pin and handle removed by our carpenter is placed inside a sealed zip-lock bag, labelled with the exact furniture piece and taped directly to the main frame.
- Multi-Layer Panel Wrapping: Once dismantled, polished doors, mirror panels and glass tabletops are wrapped in soft paper, 3-layer bubble wrap and corrugated cardboard sheets so corners and edges never chip in the lift or truck.
- Room-by-Room Reassembly: At your new home, our carpenters reassemble beds and wardrobes in your chosen rooms, level the doors and hinges, and confirm everything opens and locks smoothly before handover.

Questions
Our AC technician performs a proper compressor pump-down (locking the refrigerant gas inside the outdoor condenser unit using Allen-key service valves) before disconnecting copper pipes and sealing the flare nuts against dust and moisture.
Always keep the refrigerator upright during transport and wait at least 3 to 4 hours after placing it in your new home before plugging it in, so compressor oil settles back into the sump.
