How to pack fragile items for shifting: TV, fridge, AC and glassware

Most damage in a house move happens to a few items: the TV, glass tops, crockery, showcase items and appliances. Here is how our packing team protects each one.

LED and smart TVs

  • Keep the original box if you still have it — it is the safest packing.
  • Without the box, wrap the screen in a soft blanket, then bubble wrap, then a hard board or carton on the screen side.
  • Always carry and load a TV standing up, never flat on its face.
  • Remove the wall bracket and put screws in a small bag taped to the back.

Fridge

  • Switch off and empty it the night before, so it defrosts and dries.
  • Tape the doors shut and secure loose shelves.
  • Keep it upright in the truck. After the move, wait a few hours before switching it on again.

Air conditioners

An AC should be opened by a technician who pumps the gas back into the outdoor unit, then refitted at the new home with proper piping. We offer AC open and fitting as part of the move, so it is planned with the rest of the job.

Glass, crockery and showcase items

  • Wrap every plate and glass separately in paper or bubble wrap.
  • Stand plates on their edge in the carton, like files — they are much stronger that way.
  • Fill gaps with paper so nothing moves, and mark the carton FRAGILE — THIS SIDE UP.
  • Glass table tops and mirrors go in a wooden or carton frame and travel standing.

Furniture with polished surfaces

Wrap sofas, beds and almirahs in poly and blankets. Remove legs and handles where possible and keep the screws in labelled bags.
