Moving Home in Dhaka During Rainy Season: A Practical Plan

How to plan waterproof packing, building access, loading order and delivery checks when rain may interrupt a Dhaka move.

Moving Home in Dhaka During Rainy Season: A Practical Plan — Pro Movers BD moving guide

Rain changes the handling plan for a home move in Dhaka. It can make a building entrance slippery, wet exposed cartons and slow loading even when the route is short. A good plan begins with the actual addresses, items and building rules, rather than a promise that every moving day will stay dry.

Check both building entrances

Visit the pickup and delivery entrances before the move if you can. Identify covered space where packed items may wait, the path from lift to vehicle and any area that collects water. Ask management whether a van can stop close to the gate and whether protective floor covering is needed. A basement ramp or long open driveway changes the handling plan. Share photographs of access, not private customer records.

Separate what must stay dry

Keep identity documents, certificates, medicines, laptops and small valuables with you in a sealed personal bag. Tell the team about electronics, books, photographs, untreated wood, upholstered furniture and cartons containing fabrics. Protective wrapping should match the item: electronics need dry packing and careful handling, while polished furniture needs protection against rubbing as well as splashes. A plastic cover alone cannot compensate for an already wet carton.

Make a short priority list for unloading. Essentials for the first evening should be easy to find and should not sit outside in a pile while rooms are being allocated. Put a room name on each carton; colour alone can be hard to distinguish in poor light or wet conditions.

Plan packing before the vehicle arrives

Pack indoors and close each carton securely. Avoid placing cardboard directly on a damp floor. Ask how wrapped furniture will travel from the flat to the vehicle without waiting in open rain. Keep wet umbrellas, cleaning supplies and unpacked shoes separate from dry textiles. If you are packing some rooms yourself, agree that division of work in the quotation.

A covered vehicle protects the load in transit, but exposed loading and unloading still need a plan. Do not assume that “covered van” means every item can be left outside at the gate. Discuss loading order and the most sheltered route at both addresses. The team should assess whether access or a heavy item requires additional handling.

Agree on timing without promising the weather

Look at the forecast close to the move, but treat it as an aid, not a guarantee. Confirm your building’s permitted hours, lift slot and vehicle waiting area. If rain makes a narrow lane or entrance unsafe, contact the moving team and building management before loading. A changed time or date must be confirmed by the company; a preferred alternative is not automatically booked.

Traffic and road conditions can also change. Give the team a reachable contact at both addresses and avoid telling them to use an unverified shortcut. For a long-distance move, plan a separate delivery contact and review arrival arrangements before the vehicle leaves Dhaka. Our long-distance planning guide covers handover at the other end.

Inspect the delivery and record concerns

At delivery, direct cartons to dry rooms, check the condition of large items and note any packaging that arrived wet. Unpack electronics only in a suitable dry space. Keep the written quotation and reference handy if you need to report a missing or damaged item. Photograph the condition as found and use the contact or complaint route rather than relying only on a verbal remark.

If your apartment has lift restrictions or deposits, review the Dhaka building rules guide. For a realistic plan, share your inventory, access and preferred date in a quotation request, or ask for a free survey when the conditions need an on-site assessment.
